Happy 20th Birthday! Turner Classic Movies

Turner Classic Movies   TV
Turner Classic Movies          April 14th , 2014  marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of Turner  Classic Movies  ,  here at Joshuaonline we are wishing  this channel a Happy anniversary.   Unlike other cable channels that launched with a purpose  then changed it's focus sometimes ( We are looking at you AMC, TV Land, Nick at Nite,  The Weather Channel , FXM , HLN (at least they changed the name) ,  Tru TV ( at least they changed the name ) , MTV , etc. )  Turner  Classic Movies has stayed true to it's mission to air  classic movies from the silent movies to early talking to 30's, 40's and 50's  and stayed  commercial free    showing  different generations of  viewers classic movies  and classic stars  that help make the movies something  people enjoy to watch even now. With so many movies and types from the past you will also find a treat .
Turner Classic Movies   has for the past 20 years been a great movies network  that even their presentation makes things feel special.  They have hosts that give you  information on the movies, the actors and other interesting facts ,they air original trailers for movies that will be airing on the channel.
For it's 20th anniversary we are glad that they have stayed  doing it's classic movies format  , after AMC gave up in 2002, and  Fox Movies was  remade as FXM airing newer movies ,still airing classics from 3AMET-3PMET (for now).  It's also stayed commercial free and has always something to view. It's a great thing to see movies from the earliest age of movies when they didn't know what they were doing but did something good. It's also good to see the "bad" classic movies that still are a treasure.
So with that  we say Happy Birthday TCM! , Thanks for airing the classic movies and let's hope that continues for the next 20 years.

12 Days of Simpsons ...now that's a marathon

TV  The Simpsons

Homer Simpson
wikipedia
Woo Hoo! , always wanted to start a post with that.   FXX ,which will start airing the Simpsons repeats in August will start their repeats with at 12 day marathon , as the  Chief executive of FX Networks, Jon Landraf said at the upfront "It will be the longest continuous marathon in the history of television". (source: Variety)  So cancel all your plans and sleep.
FXX paid $750 million  for the cable rights to the Simpsons, which has never been on American TV cable syndication .  They will be airing episodes  alot , we think. That will also start after the marathon.

Happy 35th Birthday , Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon  TV

On this day in 1979 ,  Nickelodeon launched as  children's channel on cable and satellite , you know the early  days of cable , as a children's channel that broadcast  about 12 hours a day.   The idea of a children's channel fit in  the world of cable where many single genre channels were being launched before and after Nickelodeon came to be. Before then  children , could really only get children's programming  in the Saturday/ Sunday Mornings .and if they were lucky they had some independent channels doing some in the afternoon and mornings on weekdays. Also, unlike  children's on over the air TV (PBS not with standing)  it didn't have commercials.    Anyway  , in it's early days it broadcast repeats of older shows   and acquired new shows   like "You can't do that on Television".

The channel broadcast for about 13 hours by 1983 , so after 9PMET /6PT it went to bed  but it helped spawn something else  ARTS  channel would take the night-shift   this would  later merge with Entertainment Network  and become A&;E (back then it was a watchable channel before 2005-ish) .   It later dropped that an launched another  once great project   in 1985 ,  Nick at Nite , which still exists .  Eventually expanding into more  younger children  Nick Jr. , which exists today as it's own 20 hour - a day channel .

That was the 80's , now  the 90's ( which I think comes after the 80's ) Nickelodeon  set up it's footing and was forming it self in the 80's  , it did have original programs in the 80's but the 90's is what many people remember.   One thing that 90's Nickelodeon   is well remembered for  is it's 90's cartoons  , or properly called  Nicktoons.   August 11 , 1991, was the date they launched their first 3 animated series :  Doug, The Rugrats and Ren and Stimpy.   They also had programs such as ,  "Clarissa Explains it All" , Are you Afraid of the Dark, and  All That.    Many people who grew up in that age say this was the golden age of Nickelodeon.    In the 2000's they continued to create more programs  that kids now continue to love and watch.  Nickelodeon  has continued to be recognized name and has expanded into extra channels ,Nicktoons, Teennick , Nick Jr, and Nick Mom.   Nick at nite still continues ,even though it stopped being the home of classic shows.  But it airs Full House ,that's classic now.

So happy Birthday to you Nickelodeon.
