It's that time of year again! The networks are releasing their fall line ups
It's been awhile since soap news has been presented here, and really the last big move was in 2011 when ABC announced the ends of One Life to Live and All My Children those soaps then ended up in some development hell , streamed for a while then ended after that. There's only 4 network soaps left. NBC has been down to one soap since the cancelation of Passions in 2007 for a 4th hour of "The Today Show".
Wednesday, Vulturereported that Days of Our Lives will be moving from NBC to the NBC Universals owned streaming service, Peacock, from September 12th. After 57 years on NBC and network TV, this means the show will be moving to an on demand pay platform and that NBC, the network, is out of the soap business themselves. (The chance of them making a new soap is probably higher than winning the lottery, but lower than being struck by lightning) As of this writing, NBC hasn't said what's happening to the hour long slot. NBC is replacing it with a new show called "NBC News Daily"
Days has had some streaming life, episodes run on Peacock, and it even had a spinoff "Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem" which has had 2 seasons and 10 episodes. Vulture also notes of the 4 daytime soaps it's the lowest rated. NBC and Sony, who make the show, have come close in the past few years with nearby cancelations, though it was recently renewed in 2021 for two more seasons.
The unknown question is if this will help the soap or will this cause it wither and eventually just go away? In other words, can the daytime show model work in streaming? That also seems to be test try as Amazon has been trying with another daytime mainstay, the court show and Judge Judy with her new series "Judy Justice". The idea of a soap was a daytime serial , new episode each day, but at a set time and watched during the day. When Soap Net existed, it did offer a chance to see it again, and with on-demand options as well, but there is something about having a linear slot and space that might not be in the advantage of moving this show. That's hard too tell. I'd hope that there would be something that keeps it going for a long time.
Will it drive people to the streaming service? Uhhhhh, again unknown. The other thing will this encourage CBS or ABC or both to decide to move their soaps to their corporate streaming sisters? That opens the possibility of an idea that could happen, but it's hard to know for the best. On the bright side, there won't be any news preemptions.
It's not like NBC, or any other network is going to replace a soap with anything that might be fun to watch or even a new soap, they'll find some cheaper, maybe news or talk based because it's easy and less risk. ABC has a third hour of GMA as a daytime show, CBS has The Talk as a replacement to a soap slot.
I hope the best for Days and hope it can continue to do well enough to continue, in this "Streaming is the Future ™" world or something. Anyway, these truly are the Days of our Lives.
We have looked at a lot of Soaps here on Joshuaonline , this time we thought we do a rarity for this site a List. Since the list has the word great in it, that means it's mostly subjective so your results may very in agreement. Though if you have a favorite you can tell us . For this list we have decided to do soaps that are no longer running , and American Soaps. We may do later lists of UK soap intros and of ones that are still running. We may have included one primetime , American soap in here too because they are rarer and you'll see. Let's get started.
10. Dark Shadows
We've written about this soap before , it's the most interesting thing . The soap is about vampires and other supernatural things so it's theme really fits , it has the dark haunting feel to it. I can compare the sound it makes to ghosts. It does have a feel to it that makes it stand out.
9. Passions
For a Soap that did it's own thing and could get dark even supernatural ...the theme song really could throw you off. The theme song is called "Breathe" By Jane French , it is really a great theme and deserved that daytime Emmy.
This one was a hard one because this show has a lot of Themes that I love , but in the frame of this top ten list this is the one that goes into the list. The Drum and piano bring into the theme then the sax takes care of the rest. I love the mixture it fit All My Children Well.
7. Guiding Light (1975 theme/intro )
This one is light and simple , it feels like a summer afternoon which is something of an interesting affect for a a Theme song. The Intro around this time is short and sweet. It's the sun coming through some tree leaves and branches.

6.As The World Turns (1990's Theme)
As The World Turns themes seemed to be the classiest themes I've heard in a soap , this was a harder choice but I feel the 1990's theme has a simpleness to it ,yet a grandeur which is a lot to say for a soap theme. It's not long in the intro but it does it's job and feels so well done.
That it's I am calling that number. I chose the ending credits, glad I found one without the annoying voice over ,gosh networks shut up sometimes. Here is an intro from the same period
5.Ryan's Hope
This is a soap we have covered in a Lookback . "Ryan's Hope" Theme is a happy and optimistic sounding theme it may even through you off from the what comes after it ,which could be happy or not. The theme really captures you into the show.
As the note the theme didn't change really through the show's history , but the opens did the open I picked was from 1980 and even the images of New York seem happy and optimistic it fits the music well.
4. The Edge of Night
We have covered this soap before in a lookback , but theme , well the more famous theme is interesting one. It has a spooky haunting sound with an ominous feel too it. For a crime and mystery soap the theme fits very well.
We've written about Sunset Beach here before . It's theme is amazing , it has a great melodrama sound . It really gets you ready for the soap , the intro itself doesn't do much just showing you the faces of who is on the show , so the music really brings the flare.
2. One Life To Live (Mid 80's theme)
This one is also my favorite themes of One Life to Live , the music is upbeat and lively (maybe the pun was intended) It's a catchy one , It gets stuck in my head where it can at any point randomly just pop in my head and I hum it.

NBC's only Daytime Soap, "Days of Our Lives" has been renewed for it's 51th season. The show recently celebrated it's 50th anniversary will get to live to see another day of it's life.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Feb. 11, 2016 — “Days of our Lives,” which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and is one of the most iconic programs in the history of daytime television, has been renewed for a new season by NBC.
The announcement was made by Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment.
“NBC is incredibly proud of the legacy of ‘Days of our Lives’ and we couldn’t be more excited to brings its fans new stories for the 51st season,” Salke said. “In a business where having a show remain on the air for two seasons is considered a success, what ‘Days’ has achieved is extraordinary.”
So far this season, “Days of our Lives” is averaging a 0.90 rating, 6 share in women 18-49 and 2.901 million viewers overall in “most current” ratings from Nielsen Media Research. Through the first five weeks of the current quarter, “Days” has grown to a 0.93 rating, 6 share in women 18-49, up +6% versus its 0.88 for the same period last year, and 2.993 million viewers overall, up +15% versus its 2.601 million for the same weeks last year.
“Days of our Lives” has garnered 43 Daytime Emmy Awards, including 2015’s Outstanding Daytime Drama, and numerous nominations, as well as multiple People’s Choice Awards, GLAAD Media Awards, and Prism Awards. The show airs nationally on NBC in the United States and in more than 25 countries internationally.
“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.” For over a half-century, those words have introduced and underscored one of daytime drama’s rare mainstays. NBC’s “Days of our Lives” first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later.
The success of the series derives from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling — supported by a diverse ensemble of performers — and its uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests. “Days of our Lives” is set in the fictitious Midwestern town of Salem. The core families are the Bradys, Hortons and DiMeras, and the multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama.
“Days of our Lives” is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ken Corday is executive producer, with co-executive producers Greg Meng and Albert Alarr. Dena Higley and Josh Griffith are the head writing team.
There many soap operas that so much we have a fourth posting about them in a lookback fashion.
1.The City
Remember when we talked about the Soap "Loving" ? (If you don't then it's right here) Then you remember when we said the show ended in 1995 and it's famous plot line was a serial killer (ironic , because they killed a serial show). This takes us to "The City", Agnes Nixon , the creator of such soaps : "All My Children" , "One Life to Live", "Loving" , got another slot on ABC to replace her "Loving " . The City began November 13 , 1995 , (or the following Monday from the end of "Loving") the main characters of the soap were those who weren't killed off in "Loving" they moved from the place where all the murders were (not the worst idea) to New York's Soho district in an apartment building. (Wait , are we sure we aren't talking about Friends?) Another thing about The City is well ... it's main setting wasn't the city (that title guy is so fired) it was the loft and surrounding parts.

One of the biggest story lines for this series was about a transsexual photographer and the fall-out of people finding out until it was dropped because of the subject matter and bad other things. (no serial killers) Remember the serial killer? They tried to bring that back as well by having some of the characters stalked or murdered (contracts are weird) and the killer was .... (ehhh)
Since this show is being covered as a lookback that probably means it's dead (yes , it was killed by serial killer who also stalked Young and The Restless and killed Sunset Beach later on) yep , the show never caught on with viewers. Morgan Fairchild left the show and was replaced by Jane Eliot from "General Hospital" but again not catching on fire as a show. Another factor was the time slot : In the East it was on at 12:30 PM against "The Young and The Restless" (kind of like putting your new show against American Idol in the 2000's) and ABC canceled it in 1997.
An interesting note characters Angie Hubbard (played by Debbi Morgan ) and her son Frankie , started on "All My Children" in 1983 , moved to "Loving" in 1993 and being a survivor moved to "The City".
2. Port Charles
After "The City" was a canceled , ABC did repeats of other soaps until they got a new soap called "Port Charles" If that sound familiar , well that's because it's a spin off of "General Hospital" it takes place in the fictional city of Port Charles , much like General Hospital. (Unlike The City) Port Charles began on June 1st 1997 . There were plans to do a GH spin off since 1996 (maybe earlier but who cares about that?) The first name concept was "GH2 " it would focus on the interns at the medical school across from the famous hospital. It was later renamed to what the show premiered as "Port Charles" and to anchor the show well they had two stars from General Hospital star in this show Lynn Herring who played Lucy and Jon Lindstrom who played Kevin Collins . It premiered in primetime first with a 2 hour start. (That's 4 episodes of plot there)
The Soap had low ratings at first but was finding its own audience , then in 2000 it found it's style it was now going to follow a novella format , so instead of long storylines it was going have "books" (reading is fun kids ) that would be 13 week plot lines self contained in that book.
The "books" were called : Fate , Time in a Bottle , Tainted Love , Tempted , Miracles Happen, Secrets, Superstition, Torn, Naked Eyes , Surrender , Desire, and The Gift .(or the names of my kids) The original concept of focusing on interns also was later waived out.

The soap did run 6 years but didn't satfiy ABC anymore so they ended it in 2003 , this series ending had to distinctions : it was ABC's last new soap series and when it ended the slot was given to local stations ( to air news and junk) . The late 90's was really the end of new soap series being made for daytime TV .
3. Passions
ABC is depressing me , let's go to NBC as we go to their last ever new soap series ever in America (oh... should have gone to CBS eh?) Let's talk about "Passions" , it began as the century was ending on July 5th in 1999. NBC was happy with the creator of the series because he (James E Riley) was credited with the surge in ratings at "Days of Our Lives". One of the plotlines was Dr. Marlena Evans was possessed by Satan . (you know, an average Tuesday)
Passions was a new soap for Riley to try anything and not get some viewers mad at him . "Passions" had some interesting people and plotlines . Sheridan Crane , was a character who was close with Princes Diana , including having a similar accident in the same Paris tunnel and speaks to ghost Diana (uhhh what?) who urges her to survive. When Crane had a boating accident she gets amnesia (our old soap friend ) and calls herself Diana. We also had a love triangle. (yep it's a soap) Riley must have a thing for supernatural (or really missed Dark Shadows) this show had it witches (Sabrina?) ,warlocks , closet doors to Hell (which sounds like a rock song). We had centuries old Witch named Tabitha Lennox and her brought to life doll, Timmy.
In 2004 , the show went through some changes with many of the original actors leaving the show and new characters were introduced , giving the show a ratings boost.

The Soap was never the highest rated but it did well with key demos (the stuff networks care about) but NBC decided to cancel it in 2007 , this was in part due to the fact they wanted to expand the "Today Show" to 4 hours (ooh lucky us) and they were going to have affiliates give up 10AM in exchange for the "Passions" slot. It ended on September 7th 2007.
But wait , our story has a twist ! NBC owned the show and was looking for someone to pick it up for them and Direct TV did. 10 days after the series ended it returned with new episodes on Direct TV's 101 network (as it was known then) . But that happy moment of maybe a chance of hope didn't last long Direct TV announced they were not renewing the show and it ended in August 2008.
We found a theme in these soaps they were some of the last soaps made for American Daytime TV. Established soaps weren't moving and slots were drying up and also it was getting harder to attract people (thanks stupid reality shows) due to changing patterns of viewers , especially daytime viewers.
That's our lookback , stay tuned next time when we move to a city of witches who are escaping a serial killer.
We now return to our lookback at Soap Operas from the past , this time : NBC's hit soap "Another World". The idea for "Another World" was a spin off for "As the World Turns" (get it? , Another World from As the World Turns) but CBS didn't have room for the series and they didn't like an idea of a spin off being on another Network. Irna Phillips decided to pitch the soap to NBC but not as a spin off.
The soap did things that were considered controversial a plotline with a teenager having an (at the time) illegal abortion. It also ,after year lessened the focus on one family later on Agnes Nixon became the head writer of the series and it found a footing and audience. By the 1970's Nixon left to create One life to Live . In 1970 it also gained a spinoff , Somerset, we will talk about that soon. The series was doing well so they decided why not expand the show to 90 minutes ( way longer considering many soaps at the time were 30 Minutes and some were expanding to an hour ) in 1979. The 90 minute period started with the death of the Character , John. Randolph. The 90 minutes idea didn't catch on too much with the viewers so after a few months it was cut back down to 60.

In the 1980's a new family became prominent in the series , the Love Family, this made the writing out of the Matthews family happen. The series still focused on romance. It was the first Soap to have an AIDS storyline in 1987. By the 1990's ,as the many of our story of series from the past , the kind of end up at a point where ratings go down. Jill Farren Phelps became head writer for the soap in 1995 , she decided to put the show in a youthful direction. Some plot lines during this time included Rachel Cory Hutchins had a evil look alike named Justine , who apparently was invincible to being hit by a train. Ratings going down also caused budget cuts and a serial killer plot (because serial killers make things cheaper) . Also some of the believe ability for people started going down ( I hope it was with the woman and the train) and so did ratings. In 1999 Another World was canceled due to low ratings and also because NBC wanted to make a new soap and had no room so Passions was in and Another World was out. The Final episode aired June 25, 1999.
Another thing.... some characters after the show ended , went to As the World Turns . Fitting, considering the original intent of the show.
Now let's talk about ... the spin offs. {Inset soap opera music here]
As stated above "Another World" was originally going to be a spin off "As the World Turns" but that didn't happen. "Another World" itself did have spin offs.
The first one was "Somerset" it premiered on March 30, 1970 on NBC it focused on Palmer Matthews, Lahoma Vane Lucas , and Sam Lucas as they moved to Somerset , a fictional suburb of Detroit. When the series changed head writers it decided to have crime stories as a focus, which was a way to make it NBC's version of "The Edge of Night", but that didn't help it and Somerset ended December 31,1976 after it didn't gain big traction.
Another Spin off that was launched , this time in 1980 was called "Texas" the series focused on daily lives of Wheelers , Bellmans ,and the Marshalls. It was not originally going to be a spin off but due to the Primetime show "Dallas" doing great for CBS, NBC wanted some of that fun. ( Calling the show Houston would be too obvious) So they had a character from Another World , Iris Cory Bancroft (played by Beverlee McKinsey) "move" to Houston. They also to get more viewers they had more characters from the parent soap come to "Texas". McKinsey left the series in 1981 and they changed focus to the background characters. The series did very well in Canada but on this side it was never was that Big and it ended on New Years Eve 1982.

The Flashback Soap Operas
Since our last post was so , successful we are doing it again , Soap Operas from the past part II.
1 The . Edge Of Night The Edge of Night is a memorable soap Opera , it started on CBS in 1956. It was supposed to a daytime version of Perry Mason. Originally the Mason creator was on board but as all projects go ... the network wanted something to spice it up. The creator didn't like the ideas of making his character be well a soap so, he pulled out. (Don't worry though , Perry Mason did end up on TV in 1957). Then the retooled idea became what became The Edge of Night. This soap was different it focused on crime and mystery. With crime you had storylines follow the cops , district attenornies , gangsters, blackmailers , bad politicians . amnesia (it was a soap after all) ,marriage, murder, divorces , and more . Viewers found the show interesting at the start , and because it had lots of crime it had a lot of males watching , unusual for soaps ( Men love to see gangsters and murders , oh my ) and it also came on at 4:30 Eastern. In 1963 it was moved to 3:30 Eastern where it stayed and did well , beating ABC and NBC. But when Proctor and Gamble ( Busy scamps aren't they?) , the producers for the show, insisted that their shows air in a block it was moved to 2:30 Eastern in 1972. The ratings dropped , probably because all the teens and men weren't home to watch it now.
Finally, a King size box of Tide what will they think up next?
In 1975, after NBC decided to expand a couple soaps to an hour , CBS wanted to the same thing. So they picked , As The World Turns . But as As the World Turns aired at 1:30 Eastern , CBS couldn't air it starting at 1 Eastern, due to some stations having newscasts (for some reason, I mean really) , and the original 4:30 slot for Edge was not open either so ... guess what had to be axed? ( Guiding Light?) Proctor and Gamble found a savoir though , ABC , ABC wanted the show. The Final CBS episode was November 28th ,1975 and moved to ABC December 1st 1975. It aired at 4:00 Eastern (close to original earlier times of 4:30 and 3:30 ) and 12:00 in the West (wait the West got it first?) The problem with the time though was many viewers weren't able to see the program because their station would replace the program with something else (that's just rude , local station, rude). In 1983 , P&G dismissed long time headwriter , Henry Slesar , the new head writer couldn't help downing ratings. ABC and P&G announced the Edge of Night would end in 1984. In true soap style it ended with a cliff hanger.
2. Loving
From the creator of "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" , Agnes Nixon and also an actor named Douglas Marland , was a new soap for the 80's called "Loving". Loving took place in a fake place in Pennsylvania called Corinth . This soap was trying get back to basics of the soap genre with a focus on romance. (Thus the name) Loving premiered in a two hour prime time movie on June 26, 1983. The original focus was two families , Tthe Donovans and The Aldens. Issues in the show were alcoholism, post-traumatic stress of Vietnam vets. Loving didn't have high ratings Random story lines came into the show, such as addictions of cough syrup.

The series lasted over 10 years but in 1995 , ABC wanted to end it and so the show went out big , with a serial killer who killed a bunch of characters and a character killing a lot of characters. (Not very loving , is it?) In November of 1995 the series ended.
3. Sunset Beach
NBC daytime was looking to spruce up it's line up so a new soap was made in 1996 to premiere in the new year of 1997. Sunset Beach was produced by Aaron Spelling. It was the first daytime soap created by Spelling Entertainment. NBC was looking for younger viewers (isn't everyone?) as a way to get more viewers to the soap genre . The series had traditional storylines or supernatural ones (why not?) It had an evil twin storyline , disappearances, murders and cheating, (more to list too, it's a soap remember) As with most soaps from the past , it ended in 1999 due to low ratings it couldn't capture enough viewers for NBC's happiness. (Maybe NBC wasn't young enough?)
Wait! there's more.... Channel 5 in the UK wanted to save the show, the soap was popular in the UK (rare for a U.S Soap) they were even willing to partially fund it, but NBC didn't feel interested. (Wonder what have happened if 5 said they were willing to fund the whole thing)

4,Love of Life
From the creator of "Search for Tomorrow" there was another soap (He was seeing another soap ,I thought he loved Search for Tomorrow, shame on you ,Roy) , there was Love of Life a series that premiered 3 weeks after "Search for Tomorrow"in 1951 on CBS. It was owned by American Home Products. For the first few years , like many soaps it was 15 minutes in length it became popular and expanded to 30 minutes in 1958. The Original plot line was good versus evil ; a good sister, Vanessa Dale, and bad Sister , Meg Dale. Meg was eventually phased out of the program and changed fictional locations. ( Just like real life) The series became about Vanessa and her marriage and to make it more interesting , they brought back the first husband who was killed off earlier in the soap.(well not very well)

Meg and her son did return in the 70's to help the ratings and the original good vs bad theme returned. But now the series was losing viewers and CBS tried alot to keep it, even moving it to 4:00 Eastern , but it was over. It ended with a cliff hanger in 1980.
Here at Joshuaonline we have an odd affection to soaps ( Soap Operas, though Zest is nice) and for the first time ever our segment here called The Lookback is not doing a piece on children's Television. ( We've moved up). We are taking a look back (sorry, didn't mean to phrase it that way) at some old soaps. Soaps started before TV existed (on newspapers?) back when Radio was the king of entertainment ( oh yeah Radio). We are staying on the TV part for this one.
1. Search For Tomorrow Search for Tomorrow was a CBS Television soap that began in 1951 , the original time like many soaps and other daytime programs of the time was 15 minutes. It was made by Proctor and Gamble (yes the one's who make toothpaste and other house-hold products) this was also a time when advertisers had tons of power in making TV programs not just airing them.

It broadcast live for it's early life until the late 1960's. The Soap was was about a housewife named Joann Gardener and things that happen to her and those around her. She tangled with the Mafia (because why not?) She lost a husband, started an INN , got remarried , her baby was killed, and you know other normal things. (yeah in crazy land) In 1967 ,the show stopped being broadcast live and was now in color , and went 30 minutes in 1968. By the 70's they people in charge wanted the show to have a young feel so they cut back Joanne stories (not putting her in a coma though).
In 1982 CBS canceled the program even though it still had good ratings. The Final episode on CBS was March 26,1982 but it wasn't dead ( just like a soap to die just to come back to life) It moved to NBC because P&G still loved it. It didn't have a good time on NBC and ended in 1986.

2. The Doctors (the soap , the American one ) The Doctors, was an NBC soap Opera that began on April 1st 1963 , the same day as General Hospital ( you see what NBC and ABC were doing there). Now at first , it wasn't a soap as in a serial meaning the story followed along as you watched each day. Each episode was self contained as an anthology series. It changed to a serial format in 64 . It was soap about doctors (well of course) It had plotlines about Cancer, drugs , the death of Alec Baldwin's character (he was actor on the show in the early 80's).
The series ran on NBC from 1963 until December 31st , 1982 one of the reasons for it's demise was low ratings and stations adding newscasts at lunchtime (thanks for that).

3. Dark Shadows Dark Shadows , was an ABC soap that premiered in 1966 it was created by Dan Curtis. The Soap was about Werewolves, Vampires , zombies, witches, Time travel... (you know daily things I have to put up with) Sometimes one actor would play more than one person ( which would make love scenes ... odd) Victoria Winters was the primary character who ends up in a strange town , the show didn't originally feature the supernatural things until later in it's run. It came on at 4/3c ( when network Daytime meant... daytime) Though ratings declined after a storyline that turned off some viewers and ABC was removing shows that weren't deemed to be money makers ... this show had a young audience, the show was canceled in 1972.
It did repeat after that including time on then Sci-fi Channel in the 2000's.

4. Ryan's Hope Ryan's Hope , premiered on ABC in July of 1975. It was about an Irish-American family called the Ryans, Who lived in New York City, The series originally focused on the Ryans and their adult kids it showed the clashes between the parents and kids different thinking on things.
It also had plot lines with political scandal (easy to do ) , extramarital affairs , premartial children, abortion rights , and women in careers (it's the 70's to 80's) . The show was a hit , though it faced tons of recasting. It later on experienced random changes with odd plot-lines such has a character being kidnapped by a gorilla , lost mummy and more. 5. Capitol Capitol was a CBS soap that started in 1982 ; it was about 3 families , Denning, Clegg, and McCandless ,who lived in a fictional suburb of Washington D.C. As the name of the program suggests the families were involved in politics. The main point was about the women of the families who were feuding with each other. It had a Romeo and Juliet style storyline between the kids of two of the feuding mothers who wanted to marry.
The series featured big plotlines about the other family members. The series lost ratings when one of the storylines didn't do as well. CBS canceled the show and it ended in 1987.

Here at Joshuaonline we've been writing posts about news of soaps being canceled and finales coming soon, we did for "One Life to Live" in January 2012 , we did for "All My Children" in September 2011 . Soaps being canceled was a yearly report from 2007-2011 pretty much as daytime is being transfused into talk shows and other cheap (cost) programming . "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" were also reported to be moving online back in 2011,though that seemed lost by mid-2012 we did get the official announcement .
So now today April 29th 2013, they are both back now online.

Here at Joshuaonline we've been keeping track of 'One Life to live' and 'All My Children' as you know it's returning online but now have more information. Prospect park , the group who bought the rights to the soaps , have announced that Hulu and I-Tunes as well as their own The Online Network will also have the programs in their libraries. The time has been cut 30 minutes but still daily instead of 1 hour as they were on TV ( but maybe less commercials and worries about the news cutting them off) , the date is unknown all we know as of this writing is that it will be Spring (so anytime before June). We'll keep you updated as always.

2. "Don't Trust the B--- in Apt 23" has been removed from ABC's primetime line up the comedy has been getting some low ratings , but is the show canceled? Well that ABC has not said yet. You can read more here from EW.com
And for now it will be replaced by a second episode of "Happy Endings" on ABC
Last year, around this time here at Joshuaonline , the countdown to the end of "One Life to Live" was being covered. One thing that came out on the story of the ABC soaps "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" was these programs were moving to online. That hit a stalemate , but last month it was reported that there would be a 2nd chance. Now today it's official "One life to Live" and "All My Children" Read more about that here .
ABC announced that daytime show "The Revolution" will be ending after it launched back in January as a replacement to "One Life to Live" the show was suffering with low ratings. To replace it a 3rd hour of "Good Morning America" will be taking the slot over the summer. In the fall this will make room for Katie Couric's new show to take the slot . The 3rd Hour of GMA will be produced by the same staff as the rest of GMA.
Soap fans have something happy about : "General Hosptial" will be renewed as well.
Katie Couric's show will be airing on many ABC -owned -stations , as the show is syndicated.
So the General Hospital will be around for a 50th birthday, and this is one of first years since 2005 where a soap has not been canceled.

'One Life To Live' ended today after 43 years on the air , It ended with sort of a Cliff-hanger , it was maybe to continue online that's up in the air right now.

As 'One Life to Live" ends on Friday the 13th of January ,we look back all the soaps that were canceled since 2007.
Passions (NBC) 1999-2007 it was replaced by local programming on stations , so NBC could expand the "TodayShow" for a 4th hour.
"Guiding Light" (CBS) 1937-2009 it ran on radio first on NBC Radio, then CBS Radio, moved to TV in 1952 it ended in 2009 after 72 years due to low ratings and CBS wanting to save money , it was replaced by a re-make of the game show "Let's Make A deal,
