So Weird: Banglebye

So Weird  Disney

I'm back with another look at a random episode of the late 90's/ Early 2000's Disney Channel Original series, "So Weird". This time we are taking a dip with season 3.  Season 3 is the final season of the series. The main character, Fi, decides to traveling , as the actress ,Cara DeLizia, decided to leave the series. They replaced her with a family friend, Annie, Alexz Johnson)  joining instead. (Didn't even do the Ben 10 route, of making Annie a cousin)  Season 3 also was noted for toning the show down from it's first two seasons.

The episode we look at today is season 3, episode 6 called "Banglebye"

The episode has Molly, Fi and Jack's mom, along with Jack, Clu, Carey, Irene, and Ned are in a town as Molly is speaking to a school, about music stuff , I guess.  Annie notices the kids at the middle school are seemingly acting very nice and respectful- unlike kids. Jack, Clu, and Carey notice later that the kids in the town aren't very acting like kids.  Some boys let Clu score a free goal in soccer. The place where group is staying, the owner's son , Kenny is playing a video game called Bangle Bye (roll credits!) The game seems to be powerful, when Clu and Jack play it , the next morning they are wearing shirts with ties, and acting like what I think yuppies acted like.

This show is good at making it feel very creepy. It's also funny. It's kind of noticeable how much the episode like even about 10 minutes in has very much lacked having Annie.  But she does come up to the plot when Annie finds a remote that controls a plane and decides to fly it.  It lands in the yard of the neighbors. The man and woman that Clue and Jack saw earlier. The man isn't very happy that it did, because he's worried about his wife. (Gee, I wonder who is behind the video game?)

Annie begins to suspect that the video game is what made Clu and Jack. She finds a store with Carey that's selling the video game. The guy at the store, the same guy from before, is adamite that she and Carey take a game, it's even free.  (not even sure how he's supposed to make money, bros)  She does get tempted and it cuts to the next day, and Annie seems to be acting differently, but she is still normal and talking to the angry man from the day before.

I brought you cookies to kill the garden with/ Copyright Disney

She talks to the woman who remarks that children kept running her garden, then they just stopped.  The ends up visiting the store where the game was being sold, which wasn't locked, hmm anyway, she and Carey see the man making the video game by adding hypnotism,  He easily gives the reason why he made this game, because he wants kids to be well behaved.  He blames his wife's heart attack on children.  He used to be a hypnotist.
Oh no! I've been caught making pirated copies of Mariah Carey's Glitter Album/ Copyright Disney

I like here how the man's intentions - while not the right idea, weren't evil, but misplaced. He wanted his wife to be comfortable. He seems to know it was wrong, and doesn't even really go after Annie and Carrey to force them to be hypnotized. Annie talks to him and tries convince but says he can't un do it.  Until, Carey says try to make a game 2. (sequel fun)

Man makes games faster than you can even get them now. His new game works and undoes the hypnotism. Jack and Clu are back to normal.  The other kids are back to normal again, and the woman's garden is back to being destroyed.  The woman seems to be back to moving around and gardening.

Yeah, it's a very light toned episode.  It still is kind of unsettling how Clu and Jack act, but it doesn't feel like anyone was in any danger, and the person who was behind it wasn't really a nefarious dark evil. It's not a bad episode, it's light, and straight forward though. It is lacking some bite that could truly have made it it feel more tense and a bit scary. I do like how they did kind of do something to make one think that Annie did play the game and got all hypnotized, and didn't drag it out too long to find out what happened.

It's probably a weaker installment if you compare to an episode from seasons 1 or 2, but it's not bad. There's some fun here.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we start a store and start giving away Nintendo DS's .

Halloween: So Weird: Boo

Halloween  Disney

We talked about an episode of "So Weird" before and we are back because it's Halloween time! (OOOOH sppooky)  You can read that here if you haven't or want read it again.

This is episode is from season 2 its called "Boo" not like Boo! it sucks!  It's Boo like boo, the scary one. (If someone boos you that is scary!)   It's the 7th episode but for the focus of this , it's a Halloween episode, which is why it's called Boo.

Fi, the main character, starts voicing over that Halloween wasn't created by the candy companies. (Duh, it was invented by Ben Franklin, he got drunk one night and started banging on doors and people just gave him candy to make him go away.  And That's why there's an America)  It was actually invented by the Druids in Ireland and it was night for spirits to walk among the living.  We get a cool grave's  eye view. (I  think Fi was buried alive, oh well, series over, let's go home! )
Many people die to come here/ Copyright Disney

It's Halloween on the show, if you couldn't tell, they mention it.   In season 2 of the show, Erik von Detten wasn't there to play Clu because he was busy working on two ABC shows that nobody remembers. (They will be blog posts topics probably in the future)  They had Eric Lively play Clu's older brother, Carey. You may know Eric from the 1999 music video for  "Walk Me Home" by Mandy Moore.  (You could have mentioned something else)

They make it to this weird town in New England (always New England) called  Rhiannon. (This town rings a bell through the night, great!) There's woman's place they are staying at , her name is Mary.  Fi, Jack, and Carey notice the town is not very decorated for Halloween, also Fi doesn't like Halloween because it makes mockery of what she wants people to take seriously. (Candy?)  The Candy man who gives the kids candy is surprised that today is Halloween. (On a side note, he's got his taxes done)  He hears giggles and leaves his candy on the ground and runs away. The Candy is then eaten and burped.

The show that everyone was there for was canceled. (BOO!) Molly seems fine, she says maybe they need a break. Irene is un happy, because she's sane.  The house has no locks, because locks are bad. (Give me your passwords!)  Mary ran off somewhere and nobody can find her. Then some children who got lost making a Disney Channel movie show up. They have black eyes and look pale. (They really should have eaten their vegetables)  Molly thinks they are trick or treaters because it is Halloween. (This is Halloween, Halloween) The kids are gone so, never mind, but there are crows. (Not as scary as ravens)
I see dead people/ Copyright Disney

Molly and Fi wander Rhiannon seeing the town looking kind of strange.  The kids show up and go away again. Henry Winkler shows up. (He did work on this show)  He's playing Mary's husband named  Fergus McGarrity.  Henry Winkler makes this episode weirder and better than it was before. Something's happening at midnight. (It's always midnight)
Hereeee's Henry/ Copyright Disney

Fi thinks something strange is happening. (The show is called So Weird) Henry Winkler (yeah he has a name but we are using Henry Winkler)  goes and find Mary. Fi over hears that Mary had got the Molly and crew to be there to be replacements.  Fergus has been dead for awhile. (He's very lively for a dead guy)  Fi decides to pop out after she hears something happening at 5 of midnight. Mary won't let Henry Winkler in the house.
I said no solicitors  and no celebrities/ Copyright Disney

The weird people in  Rhiannon isn't alive ,they are spirits.  Fergus explains the spirits mess up things for a night and bring the town good fortune. (Like college students) He also explains the spirits  must take a few living people with them to the spirit realm because rules.  So Fergus is alive, just smells dead.   Fi goes back to her mother and lies that nothing is going on is  weird.  (No Weird)  She convinces her them to go down to a party.

The creepy kids show up to Fergus and he brings them to find the So weird gang. The So Weird gang, fake being dead to not get taken a way.  Good thing the spirits are idiots and think they are dead and take Fergus away.
Same/ Copyright Disney

Molly is confused and Fi tells her the truth and that happened. They drive away and the final shot is Fergus' grave and him whining about the smell.

Fi's introduction gives away what the episode is going for, but that's fine. The first half of the episode builds up the tense-ness, and making you wonder what's going on. Henry Winkler coming in to the episode turns the wheel into goofiness. You can't get mad at it because it's Henry Winkler and you are just laughing at the ride.  He's  does have a good reason to want someone to take his place, his wife is kind of mean though.  Then again, you can understand why she would be happy that he's gone for  a year or more.

It does change the entire tone of the episode, because Henry Winkler's presence is present. It takes it from tense and spooky to goofy.  Then again, many comedic series take darker routes on Halloween, so why can't "So Weird" being a normally dark series, go goofy on Halloween? It's a fun episode, really enjoyed it.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we wonder what happens when it only Thunders when it's raining.

One Shot Posts: :So Weird : Rebecca

One Shot Posts   Disney

This is personally one of my favorite Disney Channel Original series and that is So Weird , I thought it might be a fun idea to write about one of the episodes.

Background first,  "So Weird" was a Disney Channel series that first premiered in 1999 and ran for 3 seasons. It's about a girl named Fiona Phillips , Fi for short, touring with her mother is who is a singer and her brother with her mother's manager, bus driver, and their son. The series was a paranormal series where Fi would encounter different paranormal things on her journey.  It was slightly darker than other Disney Channel series before it or after it.

Today we are taking a look at episode 9 which is called "Rebecca".

Also we don't skip the theme of this show because the theme is awesome.

The episode starts with Fi (Cara DeLizia)  voicing over on how there' s a long of history of people trying avoid death.  With the question of "If we could live forever , would we want to?"  Well, Disney Channel show went there.  It starts with voices of some girl wanting to see someone but can't because other voices saying no.  Fi's brother , Jack (played by Patrick Levis, who was also in Brink!)  and his friend Clu (played by Erik von Detten, who was Brink in Brink!) are doing some driving test thing while Fi is on her computer.
This is you, reading this post/ Copyright Disney

The girl from before shows up wanting to see Molly, Fi and Jack's mother,  (played by Mackenzie Phillips) who does show  up and sees the girl and sees that she looks like someone she knew named Rebecca (title drop)  and the girl says Rebecca is her mother, also the name from a song.   The backstory is that Rebecca disappeared.  Molly wants to see the girl, but she can't see her because reasons.
No Rebecca is my mother's name/ Copyright Disney

Fi feels that feels kind of strange. Since Rebecca's daughter said that her mother was that the museum working : Fi and Molly go the museum to see her and a guy mentions a Rebecca but referring to the girl they met.  Fi, Clu, and Jack go searching for the young Rebecca (I think I'm confused) and they see her with some man and woman. Meanwhile, 1999 tech works and Fi asks for a picture of her mother and Rebecca for something.
