The channel broadcast for about 13 hours by 1983 , so after 9PMET /6PT it went to bed but it helped spawn something else ARTS channel would take the night-shift this would later merge with Entertainment Network and become A&;E (back then it was a watchable channel before 2005-ish) . It later dropped that an launched another once great project in 1985 , Nick at Nite , which still exists . Eventually expanding into more younger children Nick Jr. , which exists today as it's own 20 hour - a day channel .
That was the 80's , now the 90's ( which I think comes after the 80's ) Nickelodeon set up it's footing and was forming it self in the 80's , it did have original programs in the 80's but the 90's is what many people remember. One thing that 90's Nickelodeon is well remembered for is it's 90's cartoons , or properly called Nicktoons. August 11 , 1991, was the date they launched their first 3 animated series : Doug, The Rugrats and Ren and Stimpy. They also had programs such as , "Clarissa Explains it All" , Are you Afraid of the Dark, and All That. Many people who grew up in that age say this was the golden age of Nickelodeon. In the 2000's they continued to create more programs that kids now continue to love and watch. Nickelodeon has continued to be recognized name and has expanded into extra channels ,Nicktoons, Teennick , Nick Jr, and Nick Mom. Nick at nite still continues ,even though it stopped being the home of classic shows. But it airs Full House ,that's classic now.
So happy Birthday to you Nickelodeon.
