   Freeform's November version of 30 Days of Disney is back this year.  There will be a selection of Disney movies and some Christmas movies dashed in. Freeform will also be premiering on their network "The Sword and the Stone".    The event starts on November 1.

It's A Charlie Brown Lookback: It's Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown (Rewrite Edition)

Peanuts 

            Rewrite edition time, where I feel an older post can be re-done for different reasons In this case, I want to re-do "It's Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown" to flesh out my old thoughts, add some more things, and because the other old one has dead videos.

 

           It's Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown came out on CBS (Columbia Beagle System) on April 16, 1984. This has to be the most 80's Peanuts special to exist. It's a good example of Peanuts dipping into current things in some way.   Charles Schulz had seen the movie Flashdance and apparently liked it  and he decided to dress Snoopy up like Jennifer Beals from that movie in a comic strip from 1983.   (November 29, 1983) 

                 Flashbeagle  doesn't have a plot, per say, this in the era of Peanuts specials and the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show going with vignettes instead of a full plot. We're going to be looking at things by segment.  (wonderful) 

              The special has the tone of an episode of "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show" as well as using a piece of music that would was used for the theme song of that show. The music is also on the album also called "FlashBeagle" called "Let's have a party".  The first segment has Marcie and Peppermint Patty school stuff based on strips where Peppermint Patty sleeps in class and some of Marcie's sarcastic humor.  Peppermint Patty making the teacher question her life decisions. The song segway is wild.  It's odd to hear Peppermint Patty say she's dumb. 

          The song is "She's in Shape" which is sung by Peppermint Patty. Everyone is wearing the most 80's exercise wear worn.   The moves were apparently inspired by Charles Schulz then 12-year-old daughter.  It's an alright song, I like the part that sounds like it's inspired by "Hey Mickey".  You will know that Peppermint Patty is in shape.  

        The next segment is a short bump, it has Snoopy brushing his fur and Sally talking to Charlie Brown and pretending that Linus did anything with her a party , like he would. Charlie Brown didn't even believe her. (He's right)  There's a party and Simon says is played by Lucy takes over and there's a song where Lucy's the boss.  The song is like a mash where it looks like Lucy has a cult, but it's a fun a song. Very catchy.

         The party continues with the running gag of Sally wanting some "Sweet Baboo".  Then a little segment where Charlie Brown notices that Snoopy and Woodstock were drinking a little bit of juice of each cup and Woodstock kind of swam in it. Lucy who doesn't like dog lips wouldn't be happy to find out this news, Charlie Brown just lets it happen.  (Revenge?) 

          There's a country themed song with Pig Pen's hoedown.  Pig Pen doing line dancing means there's dust clouds.  

           I  like the backgrounds for outside in this special, they  went to work on those clouds. The next song, I really like, it's called "Snoopy".  I also like the mention of  Lassie and Rin Tin-Tin.  Finally, the big sequence, the title song and there's strange Adult peanuts bodies. The Flashbeagle dance was done by rotoscoping. The person they used was "Flashdance" stunt dancer Marine Jahan.  It's pretty fun, it's well done 80's song and like they went the extra mile to have real dance moves.

               

         

         Snoopy comes home "not hung over" but Sally needs something for show 'n tell and brings Snoopy.  At first, it does not well for Sally, but a kid apparently brought a boombox and plays music because sure, and it's the Flashbeagle song and Snoopy is up and ready to groove.  This feel like they wanted to reprise to fill out the time.   Also I never knew the concept of being graded for show 'n tell.

         It's a light special , again with no plot, but is pretty fun in terms of being a collection of mini music videos.  The Flashbeagle song is really the best one of these.   The songs were written by Ed Bogas, one of the people who worked on Peanuts music after the death of Vince Guaraldi, and also worked on Garfield specials music, which ties in well with....  Desirée Goyette who not only wrote, but performed a few of the songs.  She also worked on  a few other Peanuts specials.  Joey Scarbury, who is known for the song "Believe it or Not" also worked on the music here.    There was also an album called "Flashbeagle" that came out with full versions of the songs featured in this and some extras. 

            I enjoyed how this special is an 80's capsule.  There's a very randomness to the idea of Charles Schulz  watching "Flashdance" and thinking sure, let's go.  It's not even a film with good reception. It's also rated R, which means it's not even Schulz thinking kids watched it and enjoyed it. Maybe he started the 80's trend of taking R-rated movies and kids shows, not that Peanuts is for kids only. (It's for manly men) 

   

         The special is very much a collection of things, instead of being a story and enjoyment of that can depend on your mood. I enjoyed it, because the songs were fun and it's Peanuts, which is a comic strip and known for having pass by moments.   Besides the Flashbeagle song, my favorite has to be "Lucy's the Boss", which will please her. It's a fun song, fits Lucy's vibe and just dang catchy. 

        It's not the best Peanuts special in terms of being a good story or something, but it is fun to see Peanuts characters doing some 80's things and music.  That's it for now, tune in next time, when Peanuts was inspired by Die Hard. 

     

Freeform's 31 Nights of Halloween 2025 schedule

    It's finally September and we're running through the last months of the year. Halloween is around the corner and it's become a month long affair in October. Freeform is ready for their annual 31 Nights of Halloween.  

            The network will be airing, per tradition,  31 days of programming for Halloween themed fun.  Starting October 1 all the way through October 31.   This year is light on  the network premieres they only have one and that's "Disturbia".  They've added a couple Roald Dahl based films, these are both re-additions with "Matilda", a longtime ABC Family/ Freeform staple, and  "The Witches".   

             October 13 is Tim Burton day where they air films made or directed by Burton.  Interestingly, they are only airing the film "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" and not the first film.   The Disney Channel films "HalloweenTown", "HalloweenTown 2" , "Twitches" and "Twitches Too" do get runs this year, but they are mostly airing in the early daytime hours.

Peanuts Goes Summer Camp and Musical : A Summer Musical

Peanuts 

             Time for me to once again say I don't like the "Snoopy Presents: name" structure , that's my hang up of any these new specials and I say that with all of these.    Getting that out of the way and the titles don't skew my thoughts, it's time. 

              This is the newest (as of August 2025) Peanuts special  and dips into a few things Peanuts has done before. It was a running thing though most summers that the strips did summer camp. There's also the movie "Race for your Life, Charlie Brown", and the specials : "It was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown", and  "He's a Bully, Charlie Brown." There's also specials that are musicals in the sense, even funnier that they were animated musicals that were based off musicals. 

                     Charlie Brown and Sally Brown are preparing for camp, the story frames this as Charlie Brown enjoys camp and Sally- in character from other Peanuts media- not liking the idea but here is that she really doesn't want to go because of insecurity , not the just that she hates it.  It  goes right into a song too,  like woah it's instant song.  The no parents line is kind of funny. The song leads them into the camp and into the titles so it helps.

                It's primarily a Sally story as, again, it's framed that she doesn't feel she fits the camp vibe and world and in a more insecure worried way.  One thing I've found with these specials has been what they do with the characters. These aren't new characters or thinly spared characters -in  most of the cases of these newer specials- they have decades long characterizations and even slight changes. 1963 Sally and 1993 Sally are slightly different but have their core characterizations that are well known .  These specials seem to take story and decide on how to plop a Peanuts character into it.  I don't think it's bad to have the idea of trying something with Sally different, because sticking to 60's and 70's stuff is also a hard for Peanuts as it did have new stuff in the 80's and 90's that are fun to go back to , but there is something off in how these stories work with characters and plots.  I do think this is at least more interesting than like the Marcie special where her characterization was just strange for her known character.

             Charlie Brown is interestingly confident in this special  It's notable that he does have some sort of confidence as a character though out the other media so it's fitting.  He tries to get Sally to get in the water with him, but she feels a stick thinking it was a snake and ran.  (Understandable)  His voice actor sounds like a voice change happened at the age, and it's only jarring because it makes CB sound older, but it's not bad voice acting. 

              The special is also hinting at other plot through out, Charlie Brown notices that there's less busses at the camp, and that less kids are coming -from group shots- to the camp.  Odd comment about "Your generation" put in there.   

King of the Hill Goes in the Dog House

          There's no specific reason for me to be writing about a random episode of King of the Hill right?  This time in  One Shot Posts an episode of King of the Hill where uh Bobby moves into a dog house. 

             "Hank's Choice"  Season 5, Episode 16:   April 1, 2000 - Episode 100

                    Also, it's funny there are two episodes with the word "choice" in them in season 5,  don't confuse this one for "Spin the Choice".

             Bobby at first appears to be sick but Hank notices his temperature is the average temperature.  Peggy checks the internet but decides to take him to the doctor. They find out that Bobby is allergic to the dog. It is funny that Hank tells the doctor why don't you think Peggy is bringing in the dandruff.  Hank loves his dog, LadyBird, a ton it also seems to be the one he shows the most affection towards in ways he doesn't with his wife or son. It's an interesting thing about his character. Also the dog is 13-years-old, so it's a very close long bond. Something the show showed a few times before and after this episode.

                Peggy tells him she wants the dog to be outside. Hank doesn't want to do that. Peggy, of course, here is kind of the rational one. She puts her son above the dog and wants a solution to his problem and will follow the doctor along.  Hank even goes for the quick solution of pills after hearing the symptoms of "rectal bleeding". (I'm concerned.)   Hank gets an idea from Bill to make a  doghouse for his dog. 

             Since this is Hank he puts tons of work into making a model of a dog house, that was funny. He end's making a dog house better than many people's homes. This dog house is excessive.  He even has an opening show for it, but there's one factor: Lady Bird doesn't want to be in it. Then apparently, Hank gets a strange idea, an oddly random and strange idea: the plot.  He suggests why not just have Bobby live in the dog house because they are going to have to clean their house anyway, and the dog hasn't been in there at all, so... (gestures). 

           This is a dog house with electricity, heating, lighting, etc.  Peggy, again being rational, thinks this plan is insane. Bobby seems to like the idea. This dog house is also wild, it's like Snoopy's it can fit 3 kids around age 13 inside with no problem and room to spare, what did Hank build?  Peggy is bothered by this, especially since she's the more social one and doesn't like that people are talking about it. Hank is like yay dog. 

         Bobby, actually, enjoys being in the dog house, even if the combo of allergy pills has been working.  We get three converging paths. Peggy doesn't like how people are talking about the situation, Hank really wants to be with his dog, and Bobby is enjoying this freedom.  Peggy gets mad and decides to do flip back and have Bobby move back into the house.  

        To show that Hank does care, he decides that he has let Lady Bird live with Bill.  Bobby misses the freedom and fun of the doghouse. He fake sneezes to get back to his spot.  I also love how on TV shows it's really easy to get pizza where kids can pay the price for it easily. [See: The Weekenders] Hank and Peggy get to work to deep clean the house.  Bobby is beginning to let the dog house go down hill. Connie is bothered.

                Hank has to deal with seeing Bill and Lady Bird getting along together and can't interact with him.  Peggy and Hank show how much work they did to get the house clean enough for him, he fakes a sneeze.  He hears his dad feeling bad that there's no dog and no son. (But still TV)  

                The boy brings Lady Bird back home with him and shows Hank that he found away to deal with the dandruff.  Episode ends with Peggy now using the doghouse because of course a full grown woman can fit in there now, after Hank said she couldn't fit earlier. Doesn't matter, doghouse is gone after this. 

            This episode is strange, but not bad. Hank loves his dog, but we see his love of Bobby and as hard as he tried, he would still put Bobby above his dog.  Peggy played the rational one here well, while still letting the strangeness happen. One can understand that they probably would be embarrassed too if there were people making fun of their kid living in a dog house. She acts within reason and works here.  Bobby's part was good too, he does bring the comedy to the episode. I think it's reasonable he enjoyed the freedom of the doghouse, but his realization was great and perfect for the ending.  

          So there we go, an odd episode of King of the Hill, but one that finds some heart  and has some funny moments. This one was kind of light on the comedy  which is fine, we kind of had to accept the absurdity of the plot. I think it's a  good episode.

NBC Sets Fall 2025 Premiere Dates

         NBC has released its fall premiere dates.  There's a twist as only a network could do.  Law & Order : Thursday is back to three hours.  "Law & Order: Organized Crime" is back on the line up. The show had been moved to Peacock.  The fifth season that streamed there will be airing on NBC as a second window.  It will air on Thursday at 10pm behind the other Law &Order Shows.  The show hasn't been renewed or canceled as of yet.   "The Hunting Party", which was set to be on Thursdays in that slot, has been delayed as the show is planning to move production. 

       The NBA comes back after 20 years to NBC that will be on October 21. Before then Tuesdays will look like it would have without the sport "The Voice" second night will air starting September 23, the season premiere is September 22.   "On Brand with Jimmy Fallon" will premiere Tuesday, September 30 at 10pm, with its Friday airings starting October 3. 

         The other NBC drama , "Brilliant Minds" returns for its second season on September 22, after "The Voice".   One Night in Chicago's  three shows premiere for their new seasons on Wednesday, October 1.  

     NBC has found what to fill those "TBD Comedy" slots on their Mondays and Fridays starting in November.  St. Denis Medical on Mondays, starting November 3, will be followed by another episode St. Denis Medical.   "Happy's Place" on Fridays starting November 7, will be doing the same doubling up. 

             "Dateline NBC" is back on Friday, September 26.

FOX sets fall 2025 Premiere Dates

         FOX has set its 2025 premiere dates for the fall season.  With the premiere dates for game shows,  return of series such as "Doc", "The Simpsons" , and "The Floor".  

        The network kicks things off on Monday, September 15, with game shows. "Celebrity Name that Tune" and "Celebrity Weakest Link" premiering.    Wednesday, September 24, has two more game shows with the return of "The Floor" and new game show "99 to Beat." 

          The Tuesday night dramas of "Doc" and "Murder in a Small Town" start their season 2s on September 23. 

       Thursday night reality shows of "Hell's Kitchen" and "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test" start on September 25.

        ABC wants to give you the fall feelings in the summer heat. The network has set its fall schedule's premiere dates.  The new series "9-1-1: Nashville" premieres on Thursday, October 16 at 9pm, before it, is the parent series "9-1-1" AT 8pm, and following is "Grey's Anatomy" at 10pm. (Moved to October 9, all times stayed the same) 

             "High Potential" returns  for season 2 on Tuesday, September 16 at 10pm, after "Dancing with Stars".   

             "The "Golden Bachelor" returns on Wednesday, September 24 at 8pm in a 2 hour long premiere. "Shark Tank" finishes up that night at 10pm.  "The Golden Bachelor" moves to regular time slot on Wednesday, October 1, with returning comedies "Shifting Gears" and "Abbott Elementary".
