We've written about the now former TV company , DIC, and one their famous series , Inspector Gadget. Well, we have done some more digging and found more Inspector Gadget related stuff, and that is what we are going to review today.
Ha ha Ha Ha, No. Really No.
What we are reviewing is a technical, sequel to the original 80's series (with noticeable lack of not being that 1999 film) called Gadget and the Gadgetinis. (With a noticeable lack of the word , inspector) Developed by DIC, Fox Kids Europe and slew of others, there was even the original creator of the Inspector Gadget involved in this series , Jean Chalopin, (The Creator of DIC) This was a 2001 series that ran a couple seasons. Things have changed for ole Gadget , first he is no longer an inspector. (well finally they ...) He is now a Lieutenant (what?!) the dog Brain has left the because apparently working for Gadget was too much work for him. The Show takes place about 2 years after the original ,so Penny , his niece, is still there she's 12 now. She also built the replacements for Brain. We found out later in the series that Brain jumps at the mention of the word gadget (Brain Jumps) oh he can talk. Now this will explain what we mean by Gagetinis, (which is not a martini for Gaget) they are two robots named Fidget and Digit. In the main series , you recall that Penny was the instrument in Gadget's able to stop whatever crimes are going on. Though she doesn't follow him around as much , as she stays at home able to use the robots instead.
Robots...taking the jobs of dogs now.../copyright DHX
Gadget now works for an organization called World Organization of Mega Powers or WOMP if you like. There is a new superior named Colonel Nozzaire , who doesn't seem to like Gadget much because well he's Gadget. The leader of WOMP is called General Sir (because names are hard) and he is oblivious to any of Gadget's lack of awareness. The rest of the series follows the formula of Gadget going to stop M.A.D agents of Doctor Claw, though unlike the first series not every episodes has to do with claw.
Gadget had some work done../copyright DHX
Apparently so did Penny /copyright DHX
The show was pretty much goofy and had the element of the original series ,where Penny was going all the under work , unknown to anybody else, including her uncle. Gadget was still bumbling but not well (see 1999 movie for any words , wait don't see that movie). Probably due to having the creator involved or something it had some of the spirit of the original series ,so it's enjoyable.
That's our lookback ... (yes it's short) Tune in next time.... there's a little fun after the Jump
WAIT! Before you say hey wait a minute! This is holiday special , and you said you aren't doing holiday specials! (Unless you don't care then well I am sad) Well , we have made an exception on the fact that this special turned 40 this year, also it's not really aired on TV every year , and it's a special with Rerun in it , I like Rerun, it's his first Peanuts special. (Plus , we won't do this often ,this is very special exception)
It's Arbor Day ,Charlie Brown came out in March of 1976, on CBS (well of course) , it was the last special with music originally made for it by Vince Guaraldi , he passed away after soundtrack was completed.
Our special starts with Rerun doing his classic riding on the back of his Mom's bicycle ,and we get our first mention of Arbor Day. (This special is obviously trying to get that Arbor day cash grab) We have Sally wondering what Arbor Day is , after getting it wrong presenting it to her class as a day for ships to come to shore. Snoopy and Woodstock get kicked of the Library for being annoying. Appreantly , Linus mentions that Arbor day doesn't have a set day ,each state has their own date (Really?!) and Arbor Day is for Trees. In speaking of Trees, Charlie Brown and Peppermint Patty are talking to each other under a tree, where she wants him to explain love, but after that mess , it's baseball talk. ( Darn radio station format flips are so flippy these days)
Peppermint's team plays Charlie Brown's team 12 times this season ( He also has to worry about the Brewers) .
Woah what are they going to do to Lucy? /Copyright Peanuts
Sally, Linus, Snoopy, Woodstock , and Lucy decide to plant some trees ...at Charlie Brown's baseball field. Linus tries to stop them but well you know. At coincidental timing Peppermint Patty calls Charlie Brown that the field should be ready. Lucy stops by says she is working on it, not letting Linus tell him what they are doing. Lucy goes on with her plan. (You know maybe it's on purpose . A plot against CB) Also a bunch of the other Peanuts kids help , and Linus is too , but then again Lucy is scary. Charlie Brown preps his game plans without knowing what happened to his field. Then of course he sees it full of trees and flowers and looking more like a garden than a place to play baseball.
uhh the Diamondbacks really changed/ Copyright Peanuts
Charlie Brown is un happy (naturally) ,Peppermint Patty and her team come over as they were set to play each other. She seems angrier about it than Charlie Brown , but decides to play anyway making the best of it. (uhh anger is short?) The game goes on while they all try to work around the vegetation. Charlie asks for a homerun, and this makes Lucy ask what he would give for one. Schroederchimes in that if Lucy makes a home run ,then he would "meet her at Home plate and give her a big kiss". Guess What? She does! (Now she and Schroder are married and have 5 kids. go make that fanfiction do it!) She decides to not take the kiss though.
This is my kissing face/ copyright Peanuts
Marice hits the ball out of the park and it's caught by Rerun as he was riding with his mother on her bike.( Go Rerun!) Charlie Brown's team is doing well with help of the shrubbery. (well that's a sentence) Rain comes and stops the game , but Charlie Brown finds out they are defacto winners(woo defacto).
Well that's the special... for umm Arbor Day, though really it is funny to see how Shrubbery can help. It make a be a certain taste to like this special , it's otherwise tame and really it's in true Charlie Brown style that rain would come but it gives him an olive branch of defacto victory. It was funny to have a Schroeder almost kiss Lucy but then we never get it. (This special is like trying to cross lines in peanuts standards but still going back Lucy was her normal self ,but it played well. Rerun was only in few little segments but they were a great TV special intro.
Tune in next time when talk about a Peanuts special about about Tax Day.
Commercials , oh poor fellows people don't want to watch anymore , and sometimes they can be more interesting than the show they are taking the place of. (Maybe you should change the channel?) They can be disturbing, funny, sad, off putting, annoying, evil , happy, blah, lawyery, or confusing. (Yes , off putting doesn't have to be annoying) Joshuaonline , is trying out style of blog post, the ones about the things between the programs we talk about. Let's get started.
But First These Messages...
Do you like Beer? Do you like Shampoo? Do you have the urge to drink your shampoo? This could be the start of a commercial for medication. (Ask your doctor first) But nope ... we are taking about something from the 70's Beer-Enriched shampoo. ( I think the person who thought of this , had beer at work , didn't want to get caught drinking so he poured into the Shampoo mix and made this up)
Here's our commercial: (youtube, please don't pull the video, because it would make us look insane)
I am worried that the lady says "but don't drink it" when referring to the shampoo, yes it has beer in it ,but it also has some soap in there, so it's going to taste bad , even more than just beer. (we went there)
This was made by Bristol-Myers Squibb , I guess beer has some hair cleaning qualities, they don't make it anymore... so maybe it didn't work out.
Coming Up... that one thing you like might not like you , but first these messages
First watch the commercial (we'll wait.)
27 seconds later... unless you hit replay or looped it.
This commercial , let's see hair , it's long and the music ( it must be the 90's) .We see this long hair for awhile it's the star, but then there's the twist.
Ha Ha Ha you thought ... but no it's a dog .... also it gets mean there. "Beautiful hair like this can never be yours" then it reveals a dog that has better hair than you or us.
"Yeah , I look good, Woof" /youtube
Just be happy your dog will look good, the commercial did a good job at least making you pay attention to it, you know for something your dog will just ruin in 10 minutes anyway. ( Dogs don't stay clean long ... it's the law of physics)
And that's it for Hearldson , the World Series will be back for the 8th inning , but first these messages...
The Big Bad wolf has gone into sales (in his defense , hunting Grandmas doesn't put ... Grandmas on the table)
Wait , the Wolf asking a question about where you are going is a silly question, what's he supposed to ask ? When it's shampoo he takes a great interest. Yes Shampoo brand Shampoo does suck , it doesn't even have beer in it. The Big Bad Wolf has gone honest?
Grandma's House ? What is she running a B&B and needs a sign to it, is she the only Grandma?
Meanwhile ...
Grandma looks angry , also what I am looking at?
The moral of the story is... Wolves like well shampooed hair. Also jingles are great. TV commercials don't make creative jingles much anymore ... they just use a pop song and modify it maybe.
Well anyway that's our commercial break... now go buy some shampoo , and get some for the dog, maybe the cat (meeeeow,) nevermind.
Now back to your program.
If you liked this , tell us in comments, maybe we will do more.

Well , this is interesting ... we taking a lookback somewhere where it hasn't been before. (Can we say somewhere where?, that's got to be improper) Now in this look we are not going for the shows that are talked about most when people lookback at Disney Channel shows. Example : Lizzie McGuire and That's So Raven (which we did a lookback on in 2013) , So Join us as we go somewhere.
Disney Channel now a-days is know for making sitcoms , mostly targeted to tween girls ( sometimes twenty) but in the early days of original shows , they tried their hats at many other genres of TV shows one such example is this one.
1. So Weird
I remember this show , loved it "So Weird" was a Disney Channel show that began in the January of 1999 about a teenage girl named Fiona Phillips (no relation to the British TV presenter, for our UK audience) who toured with her rock star mom , played by Mackenzie Phillips. (Wait this sounds like a current Disney Channel show premise would be ) Where they went there was paranormal goings on . ( I retract my last statement) Since it was a paranormal show it was a dark show, (for Disney Channel, I mean show a kid today and tell them that this was from Disney Channel , they would call you crazy) Fiona also had a brother named Jack , he was a non-believer of paranormal (has to be one ) We also had the bus driver , Ned Bell, his wife and the manager , Irene Bell, and their kids Carey Bell (season 2 starter) and brother Clu Bell. (Get it Clu?)
The First season had an arch of Fiona looking to communicate with her passed away father, as she encountered different paranormal subjects , such as aliens. Season 2 continued , some changes were made as Clu was reduced so they brought in the other brother , Carey. We had a lot more fantastic creatures like Vampires (before they were done to death, then not done to death or something ) , we the audience find out that Fiona's father also investigated paranormal activity . (we get 5 ¢ per each time we say paranormal , oh 5 more) The season was a much darker one than 1 was ( even more darker compared to say, "Dog with a Blog" )
Season 3 , was the final one they decided to lighten it up a bit , also a change in actress happened as well Carla DeLiza , the actress playing Fiona decided to leave and was replaced with Alexz Johnson and her charcter was Annie. Annie had a season arch where she was followed a by a spirit panther. The series ended after 65 episodes (Disney Channel rule at the time , also a major number here in our lookbacks ) it ended in 2001.
2. The Jersey
Sports... meet Quantum Leap or something....
Disney Channel had a TV series called , "The Jersey" it began in 1999, the premise of the show is about 4 friends who find a magical football jersey (so the show doesn't take place in Jersey?) it would transport the wearer to the body of an athlete of any sport, Quantum Leap style. The series ran on Disney Channel from 1999 until 2004, with our magical number of 65 episodes. Though , it's final running was shoved to early mornings and slowed to 3 years after production of the series ended
3. Bug Juice (not a cooking show)
Think about this carefully, Disney Channel had a reality show , Bug Juice was that show. It started on Disney Channel in 1998. It was a summer camp based reality show that for kids ages 9-12 (Or Disney's Channel audience). Each of the seasons took place at a different camp.
It was a more basic reality show where the viewer would follow the drama, the fun , and interesting things that happened at this camp. (Or the fun of going to camp , but watching other people do it instead)
It ran 3 seasons and ended in 2004. Does make you wonder if Disney Channel had taken a different path and this show was more popular than the sitcoms they were making , that kids TV could have been all reality TV.
Well...It was tried again , also Cartoon Network and real don't go together
4. In a Heartbeat
Kind of rarity, Disney Channel along with Family Channel in Canada made a TV drama (yes a drama on Disney Channel) . It follows teenagers who work as part time EMT's as they have to balance school life and work life. The kids on the show were also football player, cheerleader, another football player, and a troubled teen. ( Ummm sure ) It ran 20 episodes for 1 season in 2000-01. It's another show that makes you wonder that if it did well in Disney's eyes , Disney Channel could be the TNT for kids. ( Law and Order Jr. coming soon)
The theme was also called in Heartbeat
5. Totally Hoops/ Totally Circus
Another Reality show, this one was about a group of girls on the Lady Hoopers Basketball team. The series premiered in 2001. Much like "Bug Juice" it was basic reality show (more real than say Real Housewives). It was a spin off of another DC original reality show "Totally Circus" , which we think is about kids in a circus camp for the summer. (Bug Juice , circus edition) . It ran from June-September 2000.
That's our lookback at Disney Channel, and we did it , so thanks tune in next time when we find out Disney Channel's "Suite Life of Zack and Cody" was a reality show. (Not true)
