Joshuaonline turning 6 years and why I started it
By Skyler
Joshuaonline is Mychiller's TV and Media Blog , where share TV news and media news, with opinions. It launched in 2006 with not a major plan or a goal that's the honesty of it . This site here has changed many times it did news , it had politics it was everywhere , the slogan was "Everything Here" infact. Then around 2008 I started sharing TV news here about the new TV seasons and shows coming up, and finally by 2010 the direction of the site really has changed.
Our Slogan is "TV and Media Straight Forward" what that means is alot, it means that TV and Media news and opinion is shared in a straight forward way that opinions are saying directly what they mean, if there's something in the media we like we say it , something we don't we say it. TV is interesting and changing , we've seen many soaps go off the air, we've seen a few TV seasons go by. We hope that you have been enjoying this blog for the 6 years it's been around. We are not a large and famous blog but we are here for people to read and enioy and think. Joshuaonline is the name of the site, even though it wasn't started by a person named Joshua it was started by me (Skyler).
The media's job in the United States , atleast in the news part , is that they are supposed to inform the people and be a watchdog of government and consumers. Our goal is to make sure the media is being the watchdog not the lap dog. I would like to thankyou all for reading even if it was just the past week you found this site, the goal is to try hard at what we do and never waiver from that.
Thanks

[Open Letters] Thanks NEWSWEEK and CNN
Open Letters
By Skyler
Dear NEWSWEEK,
Your February 13th week issue did the right thing in talking about what Christians go through in the Muslim world. It's been uncovered by the media in the past years. It's been open dissuctions on should a Muslim Community center should it be built in NewYork City (close to ground zero). The United States , you have the First Amendment right to believe or not believe in what you want and not be persecuted the government or others. Has this blinded the media? I can say maybe it has the media of the United States has been blinded and not been covering others being attacked for their beliefs. Thanks to NewsWeek magazine for covering this and I hope you do more of this. (If you want to read this article your self the link is right there on Feb 13 wording)
Dear CNN,
The Election coverage you have been doing has been great, I love how you have been devoting reporters and people to states the rest of the media has cut back on. When last Tuesdays, Colorado, Missouri, and Minnesota went to vote, MSNBC ditched to having their regular shows on,and tape at 11PMET , when Colorado wasn't done.Though MSNBC's coverage wouldn't have been that good anyway. FOX NEWS Channel ditched last week too. But CNN did a great job but ... beyond that like in Nevada, you in Colorado, Missouri , and Minnesota had reporters showing us the caucuses and giving numbers that no one else had because you had them first. Thanks CNN and do more of this.
We may do more media open letters soon , if you have an idea email us at mychiller @inbox.com , or tell us on google plus search for mychiller , or on http://facebook.com/mychiller

The Cable news world , could be growing . The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Walt Disney (ABCNEWS Parent) and Univision Communuications are in talks to launch an English language news network and could be launched before the elections.
from WSJ:
The new channel would plunge Disney’s ABC News more directly into the fractious cable-news wars, competing alongside Time Warner Inc’s CNN, News Corp.’s Fox News and Comcast Corp.’s MSNBC. And it would mark a big strategic shift for Univision, which since its beginnings five decades ago has been defined by its Spanish broadcasts, but which will now compete for English speakers.ABC and Univision have not commented on this as of yet. But it does make for a good idea. ABC did have plans to launch a news channel in 1996 but changed minds. ABC currently has a news channel ABC NEWSNOW , it's not very main stream , really only available on Verizon Fios and online from some cable companies and on some mobile phones. It's mostly taped programmed and lifestyle shows.
well update you as we can.

[opinion] Please no more debates
MEDIA TALK
TV Media
by Meghan F for mychiller media talk
Another 2 debate for Republicans is this week , one tonight on FOX NEWS Channel (9PMET) and another CNN Debate ,Thursday (8PMET ), haven't we gotten enough debates ? Do we need to me the candidates still , the same questions asked? Though CNN and FOX debates are better than ABC and NBC's sad excuses of debates. We have understood where each candidate stands on each issue, the questions are now getting redundant. The networks should stop now , and candidates should say no that's what ended the debate with Newsmax, last month.
The cable networks , maybe want more ratings , but at the cost of just annoying people and making the message seem less useful. I do think the debates and the elections so far have weeded out the candidates out don't cut the voters eye. The debate system is messed-up , they pick people out of polls ,which annoy me , Buddy Romer is running for president but he wasn't in the debates because his poll numbers were low, his poll numbers were low because he wasn't in the debates were people could see him, he not being in the debates didn't help him because the networks weeded him out for no reason.
But please can we stop with the debates until we now have the 2 candidates for the general made?

C1. no weebles ,Nothing here is listed by how important it is. CNN did use their "flick" technology but the little "weebles" disappeared.
2. What do we do all night? Most of the news channels started a 6PMET with coverage and for about 2 hours they waited for the polls to close. 8PMET , the declared Romney the winner and now they got bored, they carried the winner's speech, the 2nd place ,Ron Paul speech, 3rd place Huntsman, 4th place Santorum and 5th place Gingrich. Perry didn't do one and they forget about Buddy Rohmer. So by 10pmET they were just talking about what will happen in South Carolina and most of the channels went to bed at 1AMET.
3. So no Olbermann Current TV , didn't have Keith Olbermann again but the 3 people from last time , Cenk Uygur, fmr. Govenor Jennifer Granholm , Fmr. Vice President and Co-founder of Current TV, Al Gore (he was in a screen this time) , this coverage was even slower and last exited than last time and they did end at 11PMET ,again but this time they had a winner.
4. This Governor doesn't like MSNBC opinion hosts [LInk and there's a video from Mediaite] reason not to have Opinion hosts for a news event.
5. This is just funny or sad ? Wolf Blitzer asks Huntsman daughters are you available?
see you in South Carolina , Media

The Media what to watch for NH Primary Preview
Straight Forward Choice 2012 Media
By Skyler
New Hampshire voters , get to vote in the NH republican primaries tonight and of course the media is covering it like there's no tomorrow.
Here's our look at what the media preview is for coverage tonight.
1. Already a winner The media already is declaring Fmr. Governor Mitt Romney the winner of the primary , because they are using poll data. I do say it's wrong to delcare a winner and wonder who's second. Elections are not for the media to say who the winner is before votes are counted.
2. CNN tech Cnn , last week during the Iowa Caucus launched some new tech like "weebles" and "flick" will they use this again tonight or because of all the jokes about it last week they choose not too.
3. Current TV Keith Olbermann will be there tonight , last week they cut off before the votes final announcement was made , so let's hope they don't do that tonight. .
4. Fox Business and the business channels , FOX Business we say is doing a great job at covering the elections anchor Neil Cavuto will be anchoring tonight. CNBC will not be covering tonight , Bloomberg will do one hour at 9pmET. We hope they would cover more , If you do coverage you should do more than 1 hour.

CBSs new morning show starts today
CBS Morning Shows
This morning , morning television has a new addition , "CBS This Morning" which replaced the "Early Show". It so far is a big difference to the old show and the others , NBC'S "Today Show" and ABC'S 'Good Morning America' , it starts with a mash up of the day's top stories called "Eye Opener" . It's anchoring setup is different as well Charlie Rose, Erica Hill , and Gayle King all stared the show off, then after the "Eye Opener" it was just Rose and Hill, King returns in the second hour. The desk is not square or rectangle ,it's round with a CBS eye in the middle, and the anchors sit across from each other instead of next to each other. "This Morning" removes some of the many features on the other morning shows have made use off for years, the news update desk and anchor is no longer a feature, the national weather , which was removed during the last months of the "Early Show", is gone, going outside and having people stand around is also not there.
The Studio is a wonderful improvement , the real brick, the objects on the shelves, and the coloring is very inviting and also shows the tone of the show. It also adds a flavor with in-studio interviews of CBS NEWS correspondents . The 3 host format does need bit more work to adjust the balance , but that looks easy enough. The most seeming difference a viewer could tell was the show didn't go into the lifestyle area that many other shows rely upon, the anchors didn't do much witty-banter and cheesy lines. "60 minutes" stories, politics , an interview with Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) ,they also had singer Melissa Etheridge to discuss issues of the day.

Review of the Media on the Iowa Caucus
Media Choice2012
By Joshuaonline Staff
CNN
CNN seems to pride themselves on their election coverage . This year , the network moved it's election coverage from New York to it's Atlanta HQ. It also added a bunch more graphics and gadgets to it's use age. Using heavy hitter anchors, Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer ,John King and their "Best Political team on TV" CNN made their election coverage interesting.
Goods: CNN kept the coverage fair and kept going through out the night waiting for every vote to be counted. Its setup was great overall.
Bads: CNN did use too many things, even though the GCI "Weebles" seem like a good idea it's just something for mockery. The "Flex " touch screens maybe a bit much and twitter is good but trying to use it in coverage may be too much.

Iowa Caucus Media Preview
Media
By Skyler and Joshuaonline staff
Today is the Iowa Caucus , the Republicans are working on finding their next nominee for the presidential race. We take a preview and ask questions about what will be seeing and covering on Joshuaonline.
1. The Network Coverage. The Networks (NBC,ABC,CBS,and FOX) won't be covering the Caucasus in real time , leaving the winner announcement to local newscasts , though ABC NEWS will do some during 'Nightline' as well.
2. Current TV versus MSNBC . Current TV is a cable channel run by former Vice-President Al Gore , the channel has been evolving into news and opinion , calling themselves a progressive source, or more targeted to liberal viewers. MSNBC primetime also has been doing the same. Tonight both channels will have Caucus coverage using liberal hosts we will want to know how the two channels covered it if any difference in that.
3. FOX NEWS ,CNN,CNBC,FOX BIZ They will be having full coverage tonight of the Caucus with less of a spin compared to MSNBC and Current.
4. The media post spin Elections on TV always need to fill that extra time and the way done is using analysts to spin what happened and why. Plus in a caucus which is different than a primary , the polls that have been coming out have been playing with the media. That is what they use to take a measure and sometimes they are wrong, we will see if that happens, how they take it.
We will be doing more media looking during the Caucus tonight at 7PMET on Joshuaonline

Cable News in 2011 review
2011 cable news TV
The year 2011 is now heading out the door , we take a look back at what the cable news media was like this year.
Over Coverage of Casey Anthony Not, saying that we think the media shouldn't have covered it in heavy excess. HLN (Formally Headline news until 2008) , a CNN sister network, had extensive trail coverage during the trail and coverage of the trail itself. It was LIVE brodacasting on weekends , when they never do it on a normal weekend , no matter what breaking news happens. Some could say it was do to the slow news time of summer , but there is a way the cable news channels could have covered it.
Lean Left and Lean Right Cable news is slowly loosing the news part of the term. MSNBC (owned by NBC NEWS) suffered a small blow to it's line up when Keith Olbermann left , but since 2008 the channel was adding more and more liberal opinion , they say is a counter to a Conservative FOXNEWS Channel . Though unlike FOX NEWS Channel , MSNBC has more opinion programming , as of December 2011 on weekdays they have a total of 6 hours of news with out opinion , though 2 of those hours are more devoted to politics FOX NEWS Channel's primetime stayed at number one, and MSNBC faulting but still taking second. This hurt CNN who trying to stay out of the left /right show thing.
2012 elections are sure to bring more of this out , and opinion shows aren't leaving because people are watching them. Some network executives have said that people aren't turning to cable news for news anymore, they already know the news.

CBS' New try at mornings : Coming Soon
CBS TV
By Skyler M for mychiller media and TV
CBS NEWS has been in the process of change with it's morning show hours . "The Early show" , which started November 1st 1999 , has been in 3rd place from the stop. Behind NBC's "Today Show" and ABC'S "Good Morning America". This year the "Early Show" changed to anchors Erica Hill and Chris Wragge. In the summer the show changed formats removing the cooking, the celerity news and other so-called fluff. Last month, CBS announced the "The Early Show", CBS's 8th try at a morning show and one of the longest running" will end in January. For a new morning show, which got it's name today "CBS This Morning" hosted by Erica Hill , who is the lone-carry over, PBS' Charlie Rose who will also still do his talk show, and Gayle King , who left her Oprah Network and radio show around the announcement.

Good Bye "All My Children'
TV Daytime All MyChildren 1971-2011
Now another soap hits the dust and another nail in the coffin in what daytime television used to be. Yes soaps have quickly been killed of network television since 2007.
NBC expanded the "Today Show" for a fourth hour to create a talk but to make local stations happy they ended "Passions". In 2009 CBS ended "Guiding Light" after over 70 years and replaced it with a new version of "Let's make a deal" at least it wasn't a talk show. In 2010 CBS ended "As the World Turns" and replaced it with a talk show called "The Talk" (real creative CBS). Let's admit the networks find it cheaper to make a talk show or a game show than a soap, plus soaps may have began repeating plot lines but I think that the soap was a great treasuere to our TV sets. A TV series that come on every weekday and continuing a plot from the day before. You didn't get that in prime time , without waiting a week. ABC will replace "All My Children" before it had a chance to turn 42. How many other shows can you say lasted 40 years or even 70 , except for news shows and some talks shows, and the "Price is right".
But to make this short we say good bye to "All My Children". And maybe your second life online could make you go on longer.

Children's programming on network tv
Opinion a theory
By Earl M for mychiller tv and media
I read a story about ABC this fall will replace it's corporate parent's Disney block on Saturday Mornings with a block of programming called ABC's Weekend Adventure which will be programmed by Litton Entertainment. Network children's programming I say died back in 2003. The Government passed the Children's Television Act in 1990 and was made worse in 1996. The Government mandated that brodacast networks air 3 hours of children's programming that was considered Educational and Informational and also cut back on how many commercials a commercial station can air.

Olberman's Return
Media
MSNBC's Current TV's Keith Olbermann returned to TV he's now doing a new show , or could you say a continuance of his show "Coutdown With Keith Olbermann" returned to the air after Olbermann left msnbc in January. He noticeably had a new tune to his show he now has a embraced anti-corperate style working off of Current TV not being owned by a major corporation. He still has his opinions and not liking of FOX NEWS and Conservatives. The show debuted in a new studio in Newyork the theme was the same of his msnbc show just alot more upbeat. "Coutdown's" style though was pretty much kept though not the numbers as much. You watch some parts after the jump.

Why OWN : the Oprah Winfrey network isn't doing well
Opinion by Samuel Jacobs for mychiller media
OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network , launched on January 1st this year. It had hype and tons of love for it. That has not made ratings. Discovery , which owns 50% of the channel including the space it inhabits on your TV had a channel before called Discovery Health which was used to be the starting spot for OWN, but it's ratings have been down from when it was Health. I can't help ask why is the network not doing well? There's no Oprah! Hold on a second what was the best show on the network? It was a show about Oprah's show. Oprah is not her own network alot , she's on her magazine more. Oprah fans like Oprah , yes they'll read books and products she recommends.
